The Martin Whitcher Golf Studio
The Golf Studio computer / video linked analyzing system was designed in 1989 by Martin Whitcher and a team of computer experts, who made hardware electronics to run their user friendly software. The system is an integrated video / computer graphics software programme designed to obtain accurate information on the process that occurs when a golfer hits the golf ball.
This is achieved with the use of a swing analyzer from which the ball is struck. The data is transferred to a computer and integrated with video graphics to highlight and measure swing positions. On-line editing done by the professional is simultaneously recorded, with audio instruction, onto VHS tape / DVD for the golfer to take home. The success of the Golf Studio, since it’s inception, has been outstanding, with golf professionals such as Mark McNulty, Tony Johnstone, Chris Davison and trick golf specialist Noel Hunt using the equipment extensively whilst having lessons.
Many top amateur golfers have achieved results they never thought possible before they experienced the Golf Studio. National team representatives, both ladies and men, have improved to international standards.
Junior development academies use the training facility extensively, and as these young golfers have been brought up with the system it will be interesting to see their progress in the future.
HOW THE GOLF STUDIO WORKS.
- The golfer hits fifteen shots from the swing analyzer which records:
- Club head speed.
- Ball carry.
- Club face angle at impact.
- Path angle.
- Impact point.
- Tempo.
This information is displayed on the monitor ready for recording onto VHS tape / DVD.
VIDEO GRAPHICS.
Captured video files are loaded onto the PC for slow motion playback with geometric drawing tools
overlaid to highlight swing positions. More than one video window can be opened to compare the student’s swing to that of a professional. The professional’s swing can also be superimposed over the student’s swing.
The video can be flipped and played mirror image for lefthanders to see and grasp the concept. All analyzed results ie video graphics, audio instruction, text notes and recommended exercise drills, are recorded onto VHS tape / DVD for the golfer to view at home.
